Watergate Bay has unveiled further details for Veuve Clicquot Polo on the Beach 2014, with organisers promising plenty of equine excitement.
Now in its eighth year, the award-winning event is taking place on Saturday 5 to Sunday 6 July.
A pop up Veuve Clicquot Airstream will be serving Veuve Clicquot Champagne on the sand to spectators alongside DJs, live music, horse stunt shows and the event’s latest addition: Segway polo.
The Veuve Clicquot Airstream will be featuring in a UK tour from May to September popping up at key events in the Veuve Clicquot calendar including Goodwood Festival of Speed, Festival No. 6, as well as Polo on the Beach.
Organisers have also been working with FEAST Cornwall to harness local talent and introduce a new weekend feature.
Watergate Bay Hotel’s Will Ashworth explains: “Veuve Clicquot Polo on the Beach is free to attend so we depend on the support of our sponsors and organisations like FEAST to ensure that we create a successful and engaging event for the local community and those who travel to Watergate Bay.
“This year we are keen to involve communities around Newquay more closely and we are thinking creatively about how to do this. All we can say is expect the unexpected.”
Polo still remains at the heart of the action, as England stars including Jamie Le Hardy and the Blake Thomas brothers, Andrew and Richard, fight for a victory.
For the first time ever there will also be an all-ladies match sponsored by Carrs Land Rover Truro, featuring some of the UK’s top female players.
Crowds can cheer on their favourite players as they saddle up for the highly anticipated Watergate Bay Trophy match on Saturday 5 July between teams from Joules and First Great Western. Official Joules event shirts are now on sale at www.watergatebay.co.uk/polo.
Philip Edgerton, from team sponsor First Great Western, said: “Dedicated to supporting the communities we serve, it’s great to sponsor this leading event at Watergate Bay. Last year we narrowly missed out by one goal to Team Joules, so we’re back to settle old scores.
“We’re also inviting spectators to race trains on our large scale model railway. A leaderboard will display the fastest track times.”
On Sunday 6 July, the Cornwall team, supported by Cornwall Farmers and Patch & Acre will take on the Rest of the World sponsored by HSBC.
Shelley Fletcher-Bryant, from Cornwall Farmers, said: “We’re known for our love of everything equine, so not only are we bringing a pop up shop with all the latest riding equipment, but we’re taking on the Cornwall Team in a new arena challenge.
“Three riders from each team will compete to tack up a pony and complete a circuit in a relay race. The first team to pass the finish line will win.”
Tickets are now on sale for the Veuve Clicquot Polo on the Beach VIP House Party, with afternoon tea and Veuve Clicquot Champagne cocktails on the Swim Club terraces, access to the VIP viewing decks and an exclusive after-party with food from Executive Chef, Neil Haydock.
Taking place on Saturday 5 July, tickets are priced at £120 for adults. Tickets are available from:www.watergatebay.co.uk/polo.
