The Fountain Lounge to Mark Next Chapter in The Roosevelt New Orleans’ Legendary History

New Restaurant and Lounge Concept to Open at The Roosevelt New Orleans, Fall 2013

NEW ORLEANS – August  2013  The Roosevelt New Orleans, A Waldorf Astoria Hotel, will pay tribute to its storied past while celebrating its future with the opening of the new Fountain Lounge, a raw bar offering locals and guests a destination for live music, creative cocktails and inventive small plates in an atmosphere where old-world tradition and modern sophistication meet.

Slated to open this fall, the new lounge at The Roosevelt New Orleans, adjacent to the famous Sazerac Bar, will celebrate its history by returning its original name – “Fountain Lounge.” The raw bar will bring a touch of new-world sophistication, while offering subtle nods to the timeless elements of the hotel.

“At the Roosevelt, we’re constantly exploring the balance between celebrating our enchanting history and creating the next chapter in our future,” said Tod Chambers, general manager of The Roosevelt New Orleans. “The Fountain Lounge will exemplify this ideal marriage of history and modernity and offer locals and guests an experience unlike any other in the city.”

Opened in 1938, the original Fountain Lounge once was a place where the hip, sociable and fashionable met to enjoy cocktails and small plates in an atmosphere described in an original hotel brochure as “casual and carefree as a night in Paris.”

The new Fountain Lounge will feature live entertainment with a focus on super premium and highly sought after wines by the glass and small plates in keeping with its history but will set itself apart by offering a full raw bar serving a massive array of the freshest oysters and shellfish from the Gulf Coast and a sampling of the best raw seafood from around the world.

From Crispy Oysters with Cajun Vichyssoises and Duck Crackling to Pecan Ale Glazed Pork Belly or Seared Tuna in a Smoked Tomato Broth, patrons will choose from an expansive menu of regionally inspired cuisine with a modern twist. They also will be able to step back in time with updated versions of original Fountain Lounge cocktails, such as the Bayou Swizzle. Modern-minded guests will be able to order from the lounge’s expansive wine and beer list.

Featuring rich wood flooring, luxurious fabrics and high-end finishes, the new Fountain Lounge will balance its glamorous past with modern touches. Just as hotel patrons did in the 1930s, the Fountain Lounge patrons will enter the restaurant from the main hotel lobby instead of the Sazerac Bar.

Opening early Fall, The Fountain Lounge will be open seven days a week. For more information, visit www.therooseveltneworleans.com.
