NEW ART HOTEL CONCEPT TO DEBUT AT THE JHOUSE

First of Ongoing Series of Shows by Emerging Artists to Open November 18

GREENWICH, CT, Nov.12, 2013 – – The JHouse, Greenwich’s premier high-tech boutique hotel will launch the first “art hotel” concept in Connecticut, and indeed, the entire the tri-state area, with the Nov. 18 opening of “Per(pro)spective,” featuring selected works by three emerging Brooklyn painters. Committed to showcasing rising contemporary artists for the viewing pleasure of hotel guests, its eleven14Kitchen restaurant patrons and the public alike, The JHouse’s Art-otel Project of revolving shows will be curated by Douglas Lederman, the principal of Schermerhorn 9 Art Advisory.  Each show will run for six to eight weeks and utilize the newly dedicated ART Salon on the hotel’s mezzanine level, as well as other spaces throughout the property.  The exhibited works will be available for sale with ALL proceeds going directly to the artists, providing much-needed practical support for their ongoing endeavors – in contrast to the practice at galleries, no commission will be collected from the artists by The JHouse or by Schermerhorn 9 Art Advisory.

The inaugural show of The JHouse’s Art-otel Project highlights the skill, dedication and hands-on approach of three young artists, Noah Landfield, Brian Meola and Karen Seapker, each with a unique vision, methodology and style of artistic presentation. It will focus on their individuality, innate creativity and ability to communicate with a contemporary audience.

With a provocative mix of abstract and representational elements and references ranging from Impressionism and Expressionism to Surrealism, Cubism, Color Field and Pop Art, the selected works are all rooted in art history, yet vibrantly connected to the moment.  In fact, the title of the show, “Per(pro)spective”, is derived from two of the central qualities of successful works of contemporary art:  having an individual point of view (perspective) and being forward looking (prospective).

“The days when a hotel is merely a place to sleep and eat have long passed,” states The JHouse General Manager Jonathan Wise.  “Today’s hotels can, and should, serve their communities in greater, more meaningful ways. Our owners have gone to great lengths to develop not only a fantastic haven for travelers, but also a truly unique space which lends itself to being a showplace for contemporary art, music and cuisine.”

Released from the constraints of “profit making,” the Art-otel Project undertaking, unlike commercial galleries, will not have to follow trends or present only the work of artists who have proven marketability.  Rather, young artists with singular and creative points of view hailing from significant artistic hubs nationwide will be able to present their work directly to the public, hotel guests and collectors.

The curator’s statement regarding the show and the artists represented, along with information about purchasing the exhibited works, will be available to hotel guests and visitors at the front desk, as well as other locations within the hotel and from Schermerhorn 9.

“Per(pro)spective,”the first of The JHouse’s Art-otel Project shows will open Nov. 18 for a six week run through the end of the year at the hotel located at 1114 Putnam Avenue, Riverside, CT.  Visitors will be directed to the hotel’s new ART Salon and other exhibition areas by the front desk, which will also provide the curator’s statement and purchase information.
