2013 Buffalo Roundup – New Date!
Feel the thunder at the 48th Annual Custer State Park Buffalo Roundup and Arts Festival, September 27-29, 2013 and the Buffalo Roundup on Friday September 27, 2013. Watch as cowboys and cowgirls roundup and drive the herd of over 1,000 buffalo into corrals. In conjunction, the Arts Festival will be held following the Roundup, featuring nearly 150 vendors offering fine arts and crafts including many South Dakota made products and Western and Native American entertainment.
Custer State Park is located just 28 miles southwest of Rapid City.

Crazy Horse Autumn Volksmarch – New in 2013
Have you ever hiked the world’s only mountain carving in progress? New in 2013, Crazy Horse will host an Autumn Volksmarch or a 10k/6.2 mile hike to the top of the mountain carving, passing through rugged terrain and reaching roughly 6,500 ft in elevation.
The Volksmarch allows the public a second chance to walk up the world’s largest mountain carving in progressSeptember 29-30, 2013, in addition to the June Volksmarch.Crazy Horse Memorial is located just 37 miles southwest of Rapid City.

Mickelson Trail Trek – Top 10 Bike Ride in the World
Formerly the Burlington Northern rail line, built to accommodate the Black Hills gold rush in the late 1800’s, South Dakota’s George S. Mickelson Trail is ranked by Fox News as one of the top ten bike rides in the world (February 2013). Bicyclists take the opportunity to travel the historic trail on the annual Mickelson Trail Trek, September 20-22, 2013. This 3-day, 109-mile ride through the heart of the Hills finds riders enjoying the area’s beauty as they travel through the scenic valleys, old railroad tunnels, and historic mining towns.
The Mickelson Trail is 27 miles from Rapid City.
