New arrivals at Cornwall’s Crealy

Two miniature Shetland pony foals and 15 kunekune piglets are among the tiny new arrivals atCornwall’s Crealy Great Adventure Park.

The theme park, located between Wadebridge and Newquay, welcomes the new animals to join its other resident farmyard animals, pets and reptiles.

The hairy piglets were born to mothers Olive and Oink, who were both among the first ever litter of kunekune pigs born at the Cornish park.

Originating in New Zealand, ‘kunekune’ translates to “fat and round” in the native Maori language and the tiny piglets will grow to be up to 100kg (220lbs).

Cornwall’s Crealy has also welcomed Katie and Keira, two miniature Shetland ponies who are on loan from Alison Hill, a Shetland pony breeder in nearby Par.

The small ponies will grow to a maximum of 86cm (36 inches) tall and are even smaller than the original Shetland pony.

The new animals come soon after the birth of a rare shire horse foal, Saffron, who was also born at the Crealy site in May. The foal is one of 300 shire horse births expected in 2013.

General Manager Simon Townsend said “It’s always very exciting when we welcome new animals to the site, so we’ve had a great spring with the pigs, ponies and our shire horse foal. They’ve all settled in really well and our visitors love getting up close to them.”

Visitors to the park are able to see the animals alongside the other residents which include shire horses, guinea pigs, rabbits, goats and a host of reptiles in the newly opened Crocodile Corner Reptile House.

As well as petting the animals, the park offers over 40 attractions including thrill rides, indoor and outdoor play areas. This summer sees six of Crealy’s popular character days including appearances from Rastamouse on Tuesday 23 July and Fireman Sam on 30 July 2013.

The ticket price for a family of four is £63.80 and a 20% discount is available when booking online. For more information visit www.crealy.co.uk/cornwall.
