Press Release
Halifax, N.S. – The Nova Scotia Eatery is a joint project between the Nova Scotia Tourism Agency (NSTA) and Taste of Nova Scotia to increase visitors to the province. The Eatery is a 28-foot mobile kitchen that will be serving authentic Nova Scotian fare at four Ontario festivals between June 20 and July 14, 2013.
“The Nova Scotia Eatery is a great way to bring the tastes of Nova Scotia to Ontario, our single largest market outside Atlantic Canada,” says Patrick Sullivan, chief executive officer for the NSTA. “We’d like to invite all our friends from Ontario to sample Nova Scotia’s culinary delights and once they do, we know they’ll want to come visit us this summer for the full deal.”
Nova Scotia is rich in history, hospitality, coastal views and fresh local cuisine that is famous around the world. This summer, Taste of Nova Scotia hits the road to serve fresh local favourites like lobster rolls, haddock burgers and blueberry honey lemonade at the Tall Ships in Toronto, Ottawa Jazz Festival, Sunfest-London and Belleville Waterfront & Ethnic Festival.
At each festival, a Taste of Nova Scotia chef will run The Nova Scotia Eatery kitchen. Participating chefs include:
Alain Bossé – The Kilted Chef, Pictou
Chris Velden – The Flying Apron Cookery, Tantallon
Matthew Krizan – Mateus Bistro, Mahone Bay
Jeff Wiper – The Galley, Chester
Roland Glauser – Charlotte Lane, Shelburne
In addition to the festivals, The Eatery will stop at 16 Sobeys stores and sample a variety of Taste of Nova Scotia products carried by Sobeys Ontario. Sampling started on June 12 and will continue until July 28, 2013.
“It’s important for us to get the word out about Nova Scotia as a culinary destination,” says Janice Ruddock, executive director of Taste of Nova Scotia. “The response in Ontario so far has been beyond what we thought it would be…people see the Nova Scotia brand, the integrity, the credibility, the authenticity of our products and that influences their decision making.”
