PRESS RELEASE

A self-playing piano that can be customised in limitless designs is now available at Harrods for the first time.

The brilliantly bespoke Edelweiss Piano is on sale exclusively at the prestigious Knightsbridge store, offering clients the option to create their own musical masterpiece.

Available in hundreds of finishes, including: acrylic, crystal, liquid metal, mirror, wood, exotic veneer and fabric, and in any colour imaginable, the statement Edelweiss Piano is available nowhere else in the world.

Assembled by the world-renowned Cambridge piano company 1066, the Edelweiss Piano offers a 4D experience of art and artistry. Unlike conventional uprights and grands, the pianos fuse music and magic in one individually customisable work of art thanks to a hidden iPod, which is pre-programmed with 400 songs and an invisible bank of precision electronic solenoids.

Each Edelweiss Piano is meticulously tuned, regulated and polished by master craftsmen until the best possible dynamic response and finish is achieved. The self-playing range includes upright pianos, baby grands, boudoir grands and the world’s smallest grand piano ‘The Sygnet G50’.

Reviving the British piano industry, which has seen sales of acoustic pianos drop from 30,000 in the 1980s to around 4,000 today, the futuristic Edelweiss Piano is heralding a new era in piano sales.

“We are reinventing the piano,” says Ross Norman from Edelweiss. “Gone are the days when pianos were only available in black, walnut or mahogany – now, with the help of innovators like Harrods, people can have any colour, material or configuration they want—in fact we relish the challenge of building a piano made from something never before used.”

“We are honoured that Edelweiss will be available in such a pioneering department store for the very first time. It is truly a high note in the company’s 45-year history.”

Now available on the Third Floor at Harrods.
