Major Music Events Part of 31 Day Salute
All-American Jazz Festival and a Symphonic Salute to the Armed Forces slated for May
Greater Fayetteville, NC – During the month of May, Fayetteville/Cumberland County honors the contributions of the military with 31 Day Salute , a month-long series of performances, ceremonies, exhibits and activities. Two of the series’ events will bring nationally-known performers to help pay tribute to the armed forces.
On May 11, the All-American Jazz Festival welcomes nationally and internationally-known jazz mastersThe Jazz Crusaders, pianist Keiko Matsui, vocalist Maysa and keyboardist Marcus Johnson to the stage at Festival Park in downtown Fayetteville. Gates open at 3 pm. Tickets are available at www.etix.com, by phone 800-514-3849 or at the box office at JW Seabrook Auditorium and the Fayetteville State University(FSU) bookstore on the FSU campus. On May 26th, actor Willford Brimley, a former Marine and Korean War veteran, narrates “Quiet Heroes” as part of The Fayetteville Symphony and Army Ground Forces Band’s Salute to Our Armed Forces. Composed by Chris Brubeck, Quiet Heroes tells the story of five Marines and one Navy Corpsman captured in the iconic photo of raising the American flag at Iwo Jima during World War II. Held at Festival Park in downtown Fayetteville, this performance is free and open to the public. The concert begins at 7:30 pm.
