FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Flamenco Festival 2013 in Düsseldorf: March 21 – April 1, 2013

The largest contemporary flamenco festival outside of Spain is in Düsseldorf, Germany.   This year’s 12 days of performances, including one world and six German premiers and 24 workshops around the art of flamenco, are expected to draw 3,000 international visitors.

Düsseldorf, Germany – At the end of March, the music and rhythms heard around Düsseldorf take on a Spanish flavor.  It’s time for the annual Flamenco-Festival (2013 dates: March 21 – April 1), the largest contemporary festival of its kind outside of Spain. For 12 days, Flamenco is the dance that heats up the metropolis on the Rhine.

The festival is centered around nine top-notch stage performances of contemporary Flamenco pieces, among them one world premiere (“XX” by the renowned dance company Increpación Danza from Barcelona) and six German premiers.  A program of 24 hands-on Flamenco-related workshops and dance classes complement the program.  The festival venue is Düsseldorf’s “tanzhaus nrw” (dance house North Rhine Westphalia).

Famous performers include Marco Vargas, Chloé Brûlé, Flamenco rising star Macarena Ramirez, and Marco de Ana.  Their approach to today’s Flamenco is charismatic, experimental, and always with a nod to the dance’s past and future.

Also noteworthy is an exhibit with photographs of Flamenco dancing by Fidel Meneses, and a series of lectures around the Flamenco art form.
