Edible Idaho South is so pleased to have had the opportunity, on Tuesday, May 21st at Sun Valley’s beautiful Trail Creek Cabin, to showcase two great chefs who have made using local ingredients and supporting their local food system a priority in their cooking. Donating proceeds to The Hunger Coalition made the event that much more satisfying.
The Hunger Coalition is celebrating ten years of serving Blaine County in a variety of ways. While it may have started as a food bank, the organization has grown to be so much more. They offer Cookingmatters classes which is a program to help teach families how to stretch their weekly food dollars by learning to cook more at home. They help with job retraining and improving English language skills. Through the creation of the Hope Garden, they help its members learn about growing their own food, about community and about individual purpose. By all of us supporting the Hunger Coalition through events such as these, we are having a direct impact on the work that they do.
I would like to thank John Murcko of the Sun Valley Resort and Gary Kucy of Rupert’s in Hotel McCall for their generous donation of both time and skill for the benefit of The Hunger Coalition.
I want to thank all of our sponsors for this event particularly Sun Valley Resort and Hotel McCall. On the food side, among others, Homestead Natural Foods, Purple Sage Farms, Southwind Potatoes, Wood River Organics, Next Generation Organics and Idaho’s Bounty for their donations. For the glorious wines,Telaya Vineyards, Cinder Wines and Huston Vineyards. For the amazing cocktail made especially for our event, mixologist Benjamen Hart, 44 North Vodka and Square One.
Lastly, I couldn’t have put this together without the help of John Gaspa of Sun Valley Resort, Hayden Seder, Edible Idaho South’s Editorial Intern and Robert Rodriguez of A’Tavola in Boise who selfishly drives up to McCall (in this case, with short ribs from Homestead!) on a moment’s notice to lend Edible Idaho South a hand.
Have a look at the gallery of photos below for a glimpse of the festivities.
And cheers to a wonderful evening!
