Award-winning tour operator Eating Europe continues to explore hidden communities and vibrant street life with local insiders with its latest tour launch in the traditional market town of Haarlem which was only in January proclaimed the Gastronomic Capital of the Netherlands for its selection of quality restaurants, culinary events, and supply of local products. The 3.5-hour long food tour through the photogenic medieval city, which is located about 15 minutes from Amsterdam, will commence on March 22, 2019.
“We’re excited to offer our first tour outside of the Dutch capital which gives guests the opportunity to experience the real Netherlands from a local’s perspective,” says Kenny Dunn, Managing Director of Eating Europe. “Haarlem has cobblestoned streets and gabled houses, tulip fields and windmills, brown cafés and breweries. But it also surprises by offering sushi with a Dutch twist, a mind-numbing selection of licorice and the culinary imprint from Indonesian immigration. We can’t wait to show all this and so much more!”
The midday experience called “A Taste of Life in Haarlem” will offer seven authentic tastings including a venue on the market square overlooking the famous Bavo Church, a quaint little cheese shop and a church-turned-brewery. Guests will experience culinary insights into the quintessential Dutch lifestyle by devouring local staples like kibbeling (a snack consisting of battered chunks of deep-fried fish), bitterballen (a meat-based finger food) and the Dutch’s favorite vice, called drop. The tours are both intimate with max. 12 people as well as social, uniting curious travelers from all over the world.
Tours run Thursday and Friday, 12pm-3.30pm, €79 adult, €64 adolescent, €52 child
