The Travel Corporation has pledged $20,000 worth of aid to assist the victims of Super Typhoon Haiyan (Yolanda). According to the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), it is estimated that the disaster has affected more than 12 million people in the Philippines with approximately 4 million citizens displaced. The confirmed death toll has reached 4,000, and thousands of people are still missing and unaccounted for. Many of The Travel Corporation’s brands including Trafalgar, Insight Vacations, Contiki and Uniworldare committed to working closely with their key partners in Manila—Pan Pacific Travel and Rajah Travel—to ensure funds are directed to pertinent charities that provide the most assistance possible.Richard Launder, President of The Travel Corporation (USA), said the company hopes the act of involvement will encourage the rest of the travel trade to come to the aid of those gravely affected.
“It is really heartbreaking to see such devastation and destruction at this scale, and absolutely distressing watching survivors lose their families and loved ones,” said Nicholas Lim, President of The Travel Corporation (Asia). “Our heart goes out to the people of the Philippines, who have been so supportive and generous to us, and we at the Travel Corporation want to contribute and help make a difference at such a difficult time.”
