Oglebay Resort and Conference Center Unaffected by Historic West Virginia Floods

Two Championship Courses, Family-Friendly 18 in Excellent Condition
(WHEELING, W.V.) – Oglebay Resort and Conference Center – West Virginia’s most popular golf destination set in Oglebay Park amid the stunning Appalachian foothills – announces its golf courses were unaffected by the recent devastating floods in the state.

Oglebay’s two exceptional 18-hole championship layouts at The Speidel Golf Club designed by Robert Trent Jones, Sr. and Arnold Palmer, along with the resort’s 5,600-yard original course – the Crispin – and its family-friendly par-3 course remained fully operational and open for play throughout June.“Our courses drained exceptionally well from the recent rains and course conditions are ideal right now,” says Rodney Haley, Executive Vice President of Operations. “While our golf operations have continued without interruption this season, our thoughts remain with those severely affected by the historic floods.”

Oglebay’s golf amenities feature layouts for all abilities. The Jones and Palmer courses at Speidel Golf Club present a compelling mix of classic and modern styles. The Crispin Course is perfect for warm-up rounds, seniors and beginners, while the two driving ranges and par-3 course are also available on-site.

This summer, Oglebay boasts a selection of stay-and-play packages that emphasize first-rate golf at reasonable pricing. The Birdie Weekday Package includes a round of golf on both the Jones and Palmer courses, cart with GPS for each round and lodging starting at $169 (per person, per night, double occupancy). Through Sept. 30 (Sun.-Thurs.), the getaway also offers play on the par-3 course and daily breakfast buffet.

Available on weekends through late fall and beginning at $299 per person (double occupancy, two-night stay required), the Eagle Weekend Package includes rounds with GPS cart on both the Jones and Palmer courses, as well as daily play on the par-3 and Crispin courses (subject to availability, cart not included). Accommodations in the Wilson Lodge or golf cottages and daily breakfast buffet also are included.

The Championship Unlimited Getaway provides guests with accommodations in the Wilson Lodge or golf cottages and unlimited golf (with GPS cart) on the Jones and Palmer courses. Available Sun.-Thurs. through Sept. 30 and starting at $239 (per person, per night, double occupancy), the package also includes daily breakfast buffet and play on the Crispin Course (based on availability, cart not included). Tee times are required for all golf rounds.

Oglebay is an hour’s drive from Pittsburgh and easily accessible from Columbus, Charleston (W.V.), Cleveland, Cincinnati, Detroit and numerous Midwest and Northeast metropolitan areas.

About Oglebay Resort and Conference Center

Situated in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains in Wheeling, W.V., Oglebay Resort and Conference Center offers exceptional overnight accommodations, world-class amenities and 1,700 acres of year-round recreational opportunities. Swimming, tennis, horse stables, miniature golf, fishing, miles of paved walking/jogging trails, shopping, sightseeing, and visiting the West Spa and 30-acre Good Zoo are among the numerous activities onsite.

Once the estate of Earl W. Oglebay, the resort and conference center land dates back to the late 1700s. Upon his death in 1926, Oglebay willed his property to the people of Wheeling for as long as “they operate it as a place for public recreation.” Today it is the only self-supporting public municipal resort in operation. Funded mainly through its resort operations, Oglebay Park has more free activities than many facilities of its type in the country.

Oglebay is best known for golf as the resort presents four courses, including two championship layouts at the Speidel Golf Club. The par-71 Arnold Palmer design is a modern links layout that takes advantage of the rolling terrain with strategically-placed bunkers, contemporary mounding and ample-size greens. Designed by Robert Trent Jones, Sr., the Jones Course is draped over the hills and dales of a former dairy farm, and hosted the West Virginia LPGA Classic for 11 years.

The resort also features the 18-hole regulation Crispin Course – Oglebay’s original layout – and a nine-hole, par-3 course. A full-service practice range and short-game area at Speidel offer warm-up and game-improvement opportunities.

Accommodations include the inviting, 270-room Wilson Lodge, quaint cottages and spacious estate houses. With over 20,000 square feet of meeting space spread over 15 rooms, Oglebay offers all the amenities to meet today’s business demands, and provides an ideal setting for training programs and corporate retreats.
