New data from international removals experts MoveHub has found Australia to be the most popular relocation destination in the world.
Using data sourced from around the globe, MoveHub found that four of the top ten destination cities were Australian, with Melbourne, Sydney, Perth and Brisbane proving irresistible to those moving abroad. No other country appeared more than once.
In total, 19% of moves were to cities in Australia, beating every other country.
London actually claimed the crown as the world’s #1 city destination, but with only one city on the list, the UK failed to have the broad appeal of its aussie counterpart. The data is taken from MoveHub’s own database for the month of October 2014.
MoveHub helps over 25,000 people move abroad every month to 167 countries around the world.
Brits Abroad
Australian cities also feature heavily among UK expats moving abroad with Sydney and Perth taking the two top spots of the fifty most popular destinations.
24% of all moves from the UK were to Australian cities.
MoveHub spokesman Max Holloway said “Australia remains an attractive prospect for brits moving abroad. The number one reason for people leaving the UK remains the terrible weather and in Australia people know they will be greeted with sunny beaches and a warm clime.
Of course the benefits of picking an English speaking country are obvious for anyone looking to live and work outside the UK, and the laid back reputation of the aussies doesn’t seem to hurt either!”
One-sided love affair
It seems Australians do not share our affection, however. While 13% of Australian relocations were to London in October, an overwhelming 35% of moves were to cities in neighbouring New Zealand.
This is a huge change from January 2014 where the majority of moves from Australia were to the UK.
These tables show the most popular destinations for the whole world, and from specific countries.
