On November 9, Germany will be celebrating 25 years since the Fall of the Berlin Wall. We hope you’ll take a moment to reflect on this important moment in history with us. The month of November also comes with the excitement of winter vacation planning and where better to experience holiday cheer and enjoy winter sports than in Germany! For those looking forward to the holiday spirit, take note: German Christmas Markets start around November 23!
Saarbrücken,with its 1,000-year old history, is a city with a vibrant cultural scene, Baroque architecture and a French ambiance. Activities include a visit to the Völklingen Ironworks,a UNESCO World Heritage Site, which shows the industrial past of the region, as well as the largest shopping milein the region. During the holiday season, the St. Johanner Markt is truly the center of the city. The Christmas Marketwill take place in the historical square from November 24 – December 23.
Germany is a wonderful place for outdoor winter activities. With the Goethe Trail and the Witches’ Trail,the Harz National Parkin the north of Germany is a great location for a winter walk. Willingenin the Upper Sauerland is a rural mountainous region and offers a diverse landscape for snow-shoeing and hiking. Great cross-country skiing and biking is possible in the Thuringian Forestalong the Central-German mountain ridges. Of course, these are just a selection from a wide variety of things to do!
In Germany’s historic World HeritageOld Towns Christmas comes alive. Goslar holds an idyllic Christmas Marketin the city center. Bambergoffers a traditional Christmas Market, as well as two different craft markets during the advent period. In the historic city of Bayreuth,visit the Margravial Opera House, a World Heritage Site, and afterwards scroll through the Market in the city made famous by Richard Wagner. Most Christmas Markets in Germany will start around November 23 and run through Christmas Eve. » Learn more
From January through August of this year, Germany’s Federal Statistical Office reported a 4.6% increase of overnights by U.S. travelers in hotels with ten or more beds, compared to the same time period last year; the total number of overnights from January through August coming in at just over 3.4 million. With the most recent statistics, the United States continues its long-standing position as a strong source market for Germany. » Learn More
