September 3, 2014, Santa Monica, CA – One of New Zealand’s most historic homes, Pen-y-bryn Lodge, is spending 2014 celebrating the 125th anniversary of its construction in 1889. To honor this milestone, the lodge will be offering guests a ‘125th Anniversary Special’ of $1889 NZD (about $1580 USD) when booking. The special, valid through April 2015, is for a two-night stay for two persons with gourmet dinners, premium local Waitaki Valley wine, and complimentary entry to the Oamaru Blue Penguin Colony at a savings of over $260 NZD (around $218 USD).

The home, which carries the Heritage NZ Category One status and is a member of Luxury Lodges of New Zealand, extends over 9687 sq ft and was built in 1889 as the family home of John Bulleid, a successful Oamaru merchant. The name Pen-y-bryn is Welsh meaning “on top of the hill”.Today Pen-y-bryn Lodge is a small luxury hotel offering accommodation in five elegant and superbly appointed guestrooms with modern en-suite facilities in a hillside location overlooking historic Oamaru with views of the sea and mountains. It is owned and hosted by two Americans, James Boussy and James Glucksman. The lodge is filled with an esoteric combination of original pieces bought from all over Europe by the original owners, together with pieces that Pen-y-bryn’s current owners have collected during their careers living and working in Asia, Africa and Europe.

Co-owner James Boussy is proud of Pen-y-bryn Lodge’s accomplishment. “For a young country like New Zealand, a 125-year old house is quite distinctive and we are thrilled to be celebrating the lodge’s 125th year,” says Boussy.

Another way the lodge is marking the anniversary is by issuing a free eBook that details the colorful history of the lodge, including recipes from the lodge’s kitchen.

Co-owner James Glucksman, who serves as Pen-y-bryn’s chef, is thrilled to share some of their recipes with guests. “So many guests ask for recipes that we thought we’d release a book with some of the most popular ones, along with photos and the history of the house, which many people want to show their friends back home,” says Glucksman.

Rates at Pen-y-bryn start at $395 NZD per room per night (approximately $330 USD).

The Pen-y-bryn eBook can be downloaded from the iTunes Store or by visitingwww.oamaru.me/pybbook. More information about Pen-y-bryn can be found on their website,www.penybryn.co.nz.
