Maboneng is at the heart of the Langa Quarter, another official World Design Capital project seeking to position Langa as one of the new centers of the city. The day concludes with dinner at the award-winning Test Kitchen Restaurant in Cape Town’s Woodstock, a trendy design hub.
On day three, participants spend time exploring How Design is Shaping the Present. The morning is spent exploring the city’s art world with one of its leading artists, John Bauer, as well as Kelvin Cochrane, initiator of the “Grassy Park” Wetlands project. The tour then stops at the V&A Waterfrontfor lunch at Mondiall, Relais & Châteaux Grand Chef Peter Tempelhoff’s hot new dining destination, before returning to Woodstock to explore the creative developments at the Old Biscuit Mill, theWoodstock Exchange and Side Street Studios. Guests are also able to admire the wealth of street art in the area and meet with up-and-coming designers.
Day four takes a delicious angle with the theme of Wine by Design. The tour takes participants toCape Town’s wine region, visiting estates that introduced bold design interventions to transform the industry socially, culturally and environmentally. Tastings in Franschhoek and Stellenbosch include stops at Babylonstoren and Spier Wine Estate, which has one of the most extensive art collections in the country, and the Solms Delta Wine Estate, where lunch at the Fyndraai Restaurant alsohighlights the local cuisine of the region.
The last morning of the tour is spent connecting with fashion and future tech designers in their centrally-located studios and boutiques before the whistle-stop design tour of Cape Town concludes with lunch at hip restaurant and design shop, Hemelhuijs.
