SalsaFest 2013: The Hottest Event in Southern Arizona
Safford, AZ– Governor Brewer proclaimed September Arizona’s Salsa Trail® Month, a month in which salsa will be celebrated at the 7th Annual SalsaFest on Friday &Saturday, September 27 & 28, in the City of Safford Town Square. The SalsaFest is a the hottest event in Southern Arizona with hot air balloons, live entertainment, delicious food, Chihuahua races, a doggie costume contest, and the chance to sample some of the greatest salsas in the Southwest.
Graham County Chamber of Commerce President & CEO Marie Freestone says “The Salsa Trail is a celebration of small town friendliness and hospitality every day of the year and it is an honor to have been recognized by the Governor to celebrate the Salsa Trail for the month of September. We are also honored to have Arizona Office of Tourism Director Sherry Henry joining us to lead the panel of judges to award prizes for the best salsas at this year’s Salsa Challenge. Contestants will make their salsa on site Saturday morning and the salsa tent will open to the public at 11 a.m.” The Safford Lions Foundation invites the public to join in the fun which includes lots of entertainment, a special Salsa Walk to benefit the Boys & Girls Club of the Gila Valley, the Hot Cars on the Salsa Trail Car Show on Main Street, Friday evening Hot Air Balloon glow on Main Street, Saturday sunrise Hot Air Balloon lift-off, and Jalapeño & Salsa eating competitions Saturday afternoon. The Salsa Trail® is all about terrific Mexican food and the hometown friendliness you will find in the small Southeastern Arizona communities of Safford, Pima, Thatcher, Clifton, Solomon, Duncan, and York. Sprinkled throughout the communities are a dozen family-owned Mexican restaurants serving terrific food with a smile and joined together through the Graham County Chamber of Commerce to make up the Salsa Trail®. ‘A Taste of the Salsa Trail®’ festivities begin Friday evening with a Hot Air Balloon glow and continues until Saturday afternoon at 4 pm. Salsa Trail® restaurants will dish up samples of their special concoctions on Friday evening and Saturday the Salsa Challenge Tent opens to sample every contestant’s freshly made salsas. A $5.00 donation gets a tray of chips for salsa sampling and a vote for the People’s Choice Awards. Proceeds from the event will benefit scholarships to be awarded by the Safford Lions Foundation.
