The preparations for major events in 2013 are in full swing:City of Design: In February 2013 designers from all over the world will again meet during the “Munich Creative Business Week”.
Reopening of Lenbachhaus: In May 2013 Lenbachhaus gallery, home of the artists’ group “the Blue Rider”, will reopen after four years of renovation.

MCBW_Logo Meet the builders of quality – Join the Munich Creative Business Week 2013
From February 16th to 24th 2013, design professionals from around the world will gather in Munich for the second edition of “Munich Creative Business Week”. This time, the wide variety of design fields will be focused around three central points of discussion: “Design: social & cultural needs“, “Design: inspired by technology“ and “Design: sustain your brand”. The main location will be Munich’s Old Congress Hall, the site of various events including the special exhibition “mcbw moments – thinking spaces for design”. In addition, visitors – ranging from students to the interested public – can meet the “Builders of Quality” at many other events throughout the city.

Rendering of the Städtische Galerie im Lenbachhaus The Blue Rider Returns! The Städtische Galerie im Lenbachhaus Reopens May 2013
After four years the world’s largest collection of Blue Rider works will return to the newly refurbished Munich art museum. The Lenbachhaus has been completely overhauled and expanded by the architects Foster + Partners, and soon famous works by Wassily Kandinsky, Gabriele Münter, Franz Marc, August Macke and Paul Klee will again be on show in Munich. These are the works that give the museum its world reputation. Soon star architect Sir Norman Foster’s new masterpiece in Munich will provide the setting that the Blue Rider deserves.

From 09th November 2012 to 10th February 2013, the exhibition “ART IS BEAUTIFUL, BUT IT’S HARD WORK TOO” in the Kunstbau prepares for the new presentation of the collection in the Lenbachhaus. It will show major works and also lesser-known treasures of the nineteenth century, the Blue Rider and New Objectivity, and also post-war modernism and very contemporary art. The aim of this show is both to take a close look at these artworks and also to consider the work of a museum, in this case scholarly research, and also preservation and restoration work on the collection.

Schaustelle_Pinakothek der Moderne SPACE FOR EXPERIMENTATION: THE ‘SCHAUSTELLE’: TEMPORARY PAVILION AND PLATFORM FOR THE FOUR COLLECTIONS HOUSED AT THE PINAKOTHEK DER MODERNE February – September 2013
The Pinakothek der Moderne is due to close for renovations in February 2013 and is scheduled to reopen in September 2013. The closure of the worldrenowned museum building, with four museums under one roof, is being seized on as an unmissable opportunity. A makeshift exhibition pavilion, named the Schaustelle or ‘show site’, is to be set up by the four collections at the Pinakothek der Moderne for the duration of the renovations. It will provide them with a temporary platform to hold exhibitions, workshops, talks, performances, film screenings and video installations and much more besides.
