39th Annual Festival of the Bluegrass
Join fans and musicians from around the country at the 39th annual Festival of the Bluegrass held June 7-10 at the Kentucky Horse Park Campground. In 1939 Bill Monroe, a native of Kentucky, known as the Bluegrass State, formed Bill Monroe and the Blue Grass Boys, and appeared on the stage at the Grand Ole Opry. Different than traditional country music bands of the time, the Blue Grass Boys music featured traditional acoustic instruments and highly distinctive vocal harmonies to create a hard driving and powerful sound. People began to refer to this genre of music as “bluegrass music”. By the 1950s bluegrass bands were forming throughout the country and Bill Monroe was acknowledged as the “Father of Bluegrass Music”.
Sit back, relax and enjoy a stellar lineup of Bluegrass musicians at the Festival of the Bluegrass! For details including tickets, line-up and camping information, visit: http://www.festivalofthebluegrass.com
