Another best financial year in the group’s history – Streamlining of the existing portfolio and concentration on selective growth – Spectacular hotel openings in 2015.

Geneva/Berlin, March 3, 2015; Kempinski Hotels once again closed the previous year with the best financial year in the group’s history – for the sixth time in a row. An increase of 6.5 percent to 1.27 billion Euros enabled turnover to pass the billion mark once more. The operating result (GOP) also increased by 8.3 percent. And room revenue showed an increase of 5.6 percent. This clearly demonstrates the success of the group’s strategy. Kempinski Hotels also achieved an increase of 5.6 percent in terms of worldwide management fees.

Clear brand positioning focused on the highest quality and reinforcement of core values.

Since Kempinski Hotels’ Management Board new line up in November 2014, which saw the appointment of Alejandro Bernabé as CEO, Markus Semer as Deputy CEO and Marcus van der Wal as Chief Operating Officer, the Management Board, including Colin Lubbe, who is the Chief Financial Officer, has concentrated on the group’s strategy for the future. Kempinski Hotels will continue to focus resolutely on the highest possible quality in five-star luxury hospitality. As part of this, the group continues to concentrate on a selective growth strategy and simultaneously strives for a consolidation of the existing portfolio, underscoring and strengthening the core values of the brand, and to ensure the highest levels of guest satisfaction in the future. A natural emphasis is placed on creating an exceptional guest journey and going beyond simply fulfilling guest wishes. With increased competition worldwide, the Management Board believes that a clear brand positioning is vital to the group’s success. Within this context, the group’s entire portfolio of hotels under operation and projects is being carefully considered. A streamlining of the portfolio is a natural consequence, with a focus on hotels which deliver the Kempinski brand promise, considering the hotel product itself, compliance with Kempinski’s operational standards and a trustful relationship with owner. As a result, as a first step, it was decided to terminate the management agreements for various hotel projects worldwide that were still under construction. This includes the Djibloho project in Equatorial Guinea, the Du Parc Residences in Mont Pelèrin, Switzerland, and a project in Xi’an, China.

Ready, set, grow – with a spectacular start in 2015.

Kempinski Hotels continues its expansion in the future – selectively and with projects and hotels which correspond to the group. In the last year alone, the group opened six hotels, signed 12 new hotel projects around the world, and extended the management contracts for eight hotels, including the Emirates Palace in Abu Dhabi, the Falkenstein Grand Kempinski and the Villa Rothschild Kempinski in Königstein, the Taschenbergpalais Kempinski Dresden, the Kempinski Hotel Corvinus Budapest, Hungary, and the Kempinski Hotel Bahia Estepona, Spain. Among the signed projects are such outstanding hotels as the Kempinski Hotel Yangon in Myanmar, the luxury hotel and residences 8 Conlay project in the heart of Kuala Lumpur, and the Cabrits Resort Kempinski on the Caribbean island of Dominica. Further projects worldwide are on the verge of being signed.

The current year has already begun with spectacular hotel openings. The starting point in January was the Marsa Malaz Kempinski The Pearl Doha, the first luxury resort on the artificial island of The Pearl off the coast of Qatar, which sets new standards in luxury even in the Middle East.

In February, this was followed by the opening of the Sunrise Kempinski Hotel near Beijing, marking the completion of one of China’s biggest hotel projects. With the Yanqi Island mega project, guests now have a total of 14 hotels and conference facilities over more than 14,000 square metres available around the Sunrise Hotel, which looks like the sun rising over Yanqi Lake. The result is a location which is particularly suited for prestigious conferences such as the APEC (Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation) summit, which was already held there in November 2014.

May will see the opening of the Kempinski Hotel Berchtesgaden in one of the Bavarian Alps’ most splendid locations. This unique hotel highlights Kempinski’s expertise in managing luxury hotels in Alpine destinations, and is a superb addition to the group’s existing Alpine portfolio which comprises Kempinski Hotel Das Tirol in Jochberg near Kitzbühel and Kempinski Grand Hotel des Bains in St Moritz. The hotel’s short distance from Munich and the type of clientele make for an excellent synergy with the Hotel Vier Jahreszeiten Kempinski on Maximilianstraße.

Further openings are scheduled for 2015, in China with hotels in Harbin and Dalian, in Africa with the Kempinski Hotel Gold Coast City Accra, in Egypt with the Royal Maxim, in Al Khobar, Saudi Arabia, with the Kempinski Al Othman Kempinski, and in Beirut, the Paris of the Middle East, with the Summerland Resort Kempinski.
