DO THE PRIVATE ISLAND MATH

LITTLE WHALE CAY, A PRIVATE ISLAND
IN THE BERRY ISLANDS, BAHAMAS
New Managers, New Ideas

Berry Islands, Bahamas, January 12,2014…Most people do not think about renting an entire island for that special occasion: significant birthdays, anniversaries, reunions, or plain old getaways.   It would be too expensive, out of the question.  Well…not true.  If a group of 10 to 12 rented the entire island of Little Whale Cay in the Bahamas, having it all to themselves for 5 nights, it is less expensive than you would think. Let’s do the math.

What do you get?  Little Whale Cay, a private island paradise set in the heart of the Berry Islands in the Bahamas, replete with accommodations, a superb main beach stretching endlessly, a marina with a flotilla of boats  for sailing, cruising, fishing, water-skiing, off-island excursions, spa and gym  facilities, sea-view infinity edged pool, tennis court, and even a chapel. And, now with the new energetic managers, Shannon and Mark Matheson, guests are meticulously looked after and given a tailor made itinerary whether it be strictly R+R or daily sporting. They also plan delicious meals with the top notch chef taking in to consideration all likes and dislikes.

It accommodates up to 12 guests in 3 individual, elegant, villas, privately set on 93 acres, skirted by white, unspoiled, sandy beaches.  Villas are all air-conditioned, with flat screen TVs, DVD players, WiFi and telephones; Little Whale House, the main house and usually the popular gathering place with a bar and satellite fed flat screen TV, 2 en-suite bedrooms, one double bedded and 1 king master suite, study with computer, spacious living room, dining room and terrace. Flamingo House has 4 bedrooms, 2 en-suite queen bedded rooms, one twin and 1 double that share a bath; living room, kitchen and terrace, and Peacock House with a king en-suite master bedroom, living room, kitchen and terrace. Houses are connected by pathways but sheltered for privacy.

So here is the math.  From Jan. 5 – April 11, 2015 rates are surprisingly affordable at $11,750.00 per day for up to 12 guests and $10,500.00 per day for up to 6 guests, with a minimum of 5 nights. That is $979.00 per person, per day and $1541.00 per person, per day respectfully, for a vacation on a private island. After April 11, 2015 rates fall to $10,750.00, per day for up to 12 guests and $9520.00 per day for up to 6 guests. RATES INCLUDE: accommodations, staff, chef, food, drinks (including spirits and house wines and beer), and the use of all island facilities, two power boats with captain,  fuel, and WiFi Internet connection in each guest house. Now, if the group should book a comparable resort for 12 people for 5 nights, they would get rooms, not a private island, from $1500 per day- not including personal chef, food, certainly not spirits, or sports, or boating.  The $979.00 pp would not go very far. There would be extras on top of extras and very little control of cost.  7% Bahamian tax and 8% gratuity is not included.
