Arizona Department of Transportation

Page, AZ- US Route 89T is OPEN! This roadway fixes last year’s closure of US 89 south of Page and it’s almost exactly the same distance as the original road. Getting to Page has never been faster and this path across Navajo Nation land on Navajo Highway 20 has rarely been seen by outsiders. Page Mayor Bill Diak says, “The paving of this Navajo road to serve as temporary US 89 is great news for our community and all of our visitors. The Arizona Department of Transportation did amazing work to accomplish this in such a short time. The new road and the reopening of Castle Rock Cut for Lake Powell boaters is welcome news for everyone.”

The path up lake for boaters will be as short as it has ever been with the completion of work by the National Park Service in April to deepen the Castle Rock Cut channel in the Wahweap Basin, a very popular point of departure for boaters. Opening this channel saves time and gas for boaters traveling up lake and returning to the Wahweap area. The Cut is opening just in time for what is forecasted as an exceptional spring fishing season.

Tower Butte, Papillon Helicopter

The ultimate short cut at the lake is a helicopter flight to the TOP of Tower Butte. Picture the panorama of the iconic formations of Monument Valley. Tower Butte is on Navajo Nation land on the shoreline of Lake Powell and it rises over 1,000 feet above the blue waters of the lake. And now Papillon Helicopter offers scenic flights departing from the Page airport that land on top of the well named Tower Butte. Passengers get out, stretch their legs, and make the brave walk to the very edge to take pictures that are bucket list photos.

Horseshoe Bend is just a short drive (2 miles) south of Page. First time visitors are amazed that this overlook is only a short walk from US 89. This vantage point 1,000 feet above the sweeping bend in the Colorado River is breathtaking and another amazing photo opportunity.

Visitors don’t even have to leave Page to float the Colorado River. People wait years to raft the Colorado but visitors to Page take half day float trips that depart from right in town. The rafts launch on the river from the base of Glen Canyon Dam and float all the way to historic Lees Ferry. Return to Page is on an air conditioned coach on US 89.
