BOURBONS OTHE BLUEGRASS

As cold air settles over central Kentucky, warm up with a tour at one of the Bourbons of the Bluegrassdistilleries.  Kentucky’s four seasons are critical to the bourbon making process. Cold winter air forces the barrels to constrict pushing the bourbon that seeped into the wood over the warm summer months back into the belly of the barrel.  As it is pushed out of the wood, it brings with it wonderful flavors and beautiful amber color.
There are four distilleries in the Bluegrass Region and one in downtown Lexington. Distillery tours are a great way to discover why more than 95% of the world supply of bourbon comes from Kentucky!

If your family has a tradition of going out to the movies for the holidays, put Lincoln at the top of your list then plan a spring getaway to Lexington!Kentuckians have long been proud to claim Lincoln as a native son. With the success of the new movie directed by Steven Spielberg, there is a renewed interest in the Lincoln connections and Civil War heritage throughout Lexington’s Bluegrass Region.Actress Sally Field, in preparation for her role as Mary, visited the Mary Todd Lincoln house in the summer of 2011. This historic home in Lexington is the first house dedicated to a First Lady. Camp Nelson, 20 miles southwest of Lexington, was mentioned in the very first scene of the movie. Camp Nelson is a Civil War Heritage Park and was the third largest recruiting and training depots for African Americans in the nation.
