Le jour des 8 soleils leads visitors along a poetic route through the Quartier, following an invisible character in search of intriguing and fascinating light. Already a signature attraction for Quartier des Spectacles, architectural videoprojections will for the first time be arranged in a multimedia concept spanning a large number of downtown building façades. In addition, at each projection site spectators will be able to enhance their visual experience by listening to a soundtrack and narration on their mobile phones.

As part of the Montréal All-Nighter (Nuit blanche), Art Souterrain presents a unique new perspective on Montréal’s Underground Pedestrian Network. Hundreds of renowned contemporary artists present photos, videos, installations and artistic performances throughout the 6 km passageway between Place des Arts and Complexe Les Ailes. Art Souterrain’s goal is to change perceptions of the general public vis-à-vis new contemporary art practices and to unite the visual arts milieu by identifying and bringing together its principal figures.

The Montreal Museum of Fine Arts is currently conceptualizing and organizing an important exhibition which offers a new outlook on Peru as an imagined community whose identity is constantly redefined. In Peru, the elaboration of a coherent collective identity linking the colonial presence with the indigenous presence is essential to national unity.

Pointe-à-Callière is preparing an exhibition on the Montréal stopover of this mythical British group that revolutionized pop music around the world, and that also had a profound influence on musical trends that took root right here in Montréal and in Québec. In addition to revisiting this singular event, the exhibition will take us back to the effervescent music scene in 1960s Montréal and Québec.

Mount Royal Park at the heart of Montréal is a veritable playground for winter sports: cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, ice skating and sledding on tubes or toboggans are but a few of the fabulous outdoor activities afforded by this picturesque setting. Guided snowshoe tours including a family circuit to observe local wildlife and an evening tour of Mount Royal Park are offered by Les Amis de la Montagne (Friends of the Mountain).

Ice skates are an integral part of many Montrealer’s sports equipment, which is why the City of Montréal maintains more than 150 skating rinks in the region every winter. Junior hockey players meet up on neighbourhood rinks for friendly, impromptu games and large skating rinks, such as those in La Fontaine Park, Maisonneuve Park, the Quays of the Old Port (Bonsecours Basin) and Mount Royal Park are popular meeting spots. Or, you might prefer to glide indoors at places like L’Atrium located at 1000 De La Gauchetière, Montréal’s tallest skyscraper.
