TOP FOOD AND WINE EXPERTS TO SELECT 10 WEST COAST WINERIES
FOR PRESTIGIOUS 2014 “OYSTER AWARD” IN

20TH ANNUAL PACIFIC COAST OYSTER WINE COMPETITION.Oysters are a celebration…romantic, sexy, luminous…
The right wine makes them even more so.” – Sheila Lukins
SEATTLE: Few wines go with oysters but when one does…bingo!…it is a beautiful thing. With oysters on the half shell one of the hottest restaurant menu categories, Taylor Shellfish Farms, the largest West Coast oyster grower, is pleased to announce the 20th Annual Pacific Coast Oyster Wine Competition, the popular annual dating service for West Coast wines and oysters. Entrants are solicited from over 2,500 West Coast wines. “Oyster wines are typically crisp, clean-finishing white wines that don’t get in the way of the next oyster,” says Competition founder Jon Rowley, of Seattle. Entry information can found at www.oysterwine.com.“Our idea is to find local wines for our oysters”, says Taylor Shellfish’s Bill Taylor. “We we are pleased to see a clean-finishing style of wine emerge that restaurants and oyster lovers recognize and appreciate. It adds to the gastronomy and culture of oysters.”Each wine is blind tasted with at least one Kumamoto oyster. Judges chew the oyster well, letting it go to every part of the palate, then taste the chilled wine, rating what we call the “bliss factor” or how a wine exalts the oyster.Five veteran preliminary judges pare the field to 30 semifinalists, then to 20 finalists at Anthony’s HomePort in Seattle. The finalists are then judged by panels of 12 well known West Coast food and wine experts at the Water Grill in Los Angeles, (venue TBA) in San Francisco, and Anthony’s in Seattle. The top ten scoring wines are equal winners of the Competition and receive the coveted 2014 OYSTER AWARD, a golden oyster medallion in a black shadow box incorporating the wine’s label.”Oyster Award”-winning wines enjoy immediate sales results. Restaurants serving oysters use “Oyster Award” wines on wine lists, regular by-the-glass pours, special oyster bar features and catered evens.

Taylor Shellfish Farms is a fifth-generation family-owned company producing manila clams, Mediterranean mussels, geoduck and oysters for national and international markets. For information on Taylor Shellfish Farms go to www.taylorshellfish.com.
