Northwest Ballet Theater has performed this festive classic at Mt. Baker every year since 1999. The 2012 Annual Birch Bay Polar Bear Plunge drew approximately 600 participants that took the plunge in to the bays icy waters. This event also draws about 1,500 on-shore onlookers/cheerleaders watching as hundreds of shivering brave souls plunge in to the icy waters of Birch Bay as a kind-of ritual celebrating the start to a new year.
