The dog days are here and summer produce is abundant – time again for Middleton Place Restaurant and Holy City Brewing to host the 3rd Annual Hot Nights & Holy City Beer Dinner. In contrast to the January Braise & Brew Dinner partnership, with its braised meat and dark winter beer pairings, Hot Nights & Holy City offers lighter fare with summer seasonal brews served “picnic style” on the Greensward lawn.  The event is scheduled for Sunday, August 23from 6:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.

Executive Chef Brandon Buck has reached out to St. Jude Farms for fresh-caught seafood, Ashley Farms for poultry, the on-site Middleton Place Organic Farm and regional farmers for their freshest and finest to create his summer dinner. The evening will begin with Holy City’s “Dorchester Light”, an American Lager brewed with Carolina Gold Rice, followed by four savory courses and will end with a selection of summer-time desserts. To order tickets >>

Middleton Place continued its effort to deepen the knowledge of historic site management and landscape architecture students from foreign countries this summer.Leah Bignall is in the final phase of earning her M.A. in Heritage Studies from the University of the West Indies in Cave Hill, Barbados.  Her internship under the guidance of Dr. Dottie Stone, Research and Development Associate, focused on the interpretation and preservation programs, and operations at Middleton Place and the Edmondston-Alston House. Leah worked with staff members in every department to gain a better understanding of the operations and challenges of site management and working with 21st century audiences.Mathildé Charée is a student at National School of Landscape Architecture at Versailles.  She worked under Sidney Frazier, Vice President, Horticulture, and helped to improve irrigation and other water features in areas of the Gardens. As an integral part of its educational programming, Middleton Place will celebrate Low Country Rice Culture Days again on Friday and Saturday, September 18-19, at the Outdoor Educational Center in the Middleton Place Stableyards.   All activities associated with this event are included in the price of Gardens and Stableyards admission.Though many aspects of the rice industry in the South Carolina Low Country will be discussed (i.e. origins, planting, cultivating, cultural impact), the bulk of the program will focus on the processing of Carolina Gold Rice and the tools used to complete this task. Continue reading >>
