  Celebrating local art starts here! 

Dorland Mountain Arts Colony in Temecula, CA., will hold it’s annual “Arts Under the Oaks “on Sunday, April 26, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.Admission is free.

Visitors are welcome to explore the nature preserve, admire the majestic views, hear local musicians perform, listen to readings by poets and writers, and enjoy the painting, sculpture and handmade crafts available for sale. Chicken Shack BBQ, Hot Dogs, Chili, Fine Wines, Craft Beer, Soft Drinks, and Water will be available for purchase.

The event includes live music with performances all day featuring local songwriters and musicians. Visitors will also be able to observe plein air artists in the process of artistic creation. Artisans will be displaying a variety of art, such as paintings, jewelry, photography and metal sculptures. There will also be a silent auction (with an artistic focus) to benefit Dorland and students from Mt. San Jacinto College will paint a mural on the outside wall of Dorland’s office.

The popular Internet radio show, Chords and Vines, will be broadcast live from 2 to 3 p.m. at Dorland. This LA Talk Radio Show, featuring Joe Mullenix and Kat Ellis, visits a different Southern California venue each Sunday and pairs outstanding music with local wines. The featured musical guest will be Joe Gillaspie.

installations. One, created by Michael Carrier, a Dorland Associate Artist and Board Member, is entitled “Dorland is an Enchanted Place,” honoring individuals who have helped rebuild the Colony after the 2004 fire that devastated Dorland. His sculpture, located in the shell of the former Lake House at Dorland, will be created from burnt wood, bits and pieces of leftover materials from the fire, acrylic, and neon and will be displayed during Art Under the Oaks and throughout the month of May.

Dorland opens its grounds to the public several times a year. This festival gives the community an opportunity to visit the beautiful artists retreat in the mountains. Visitors will be able to step into the cottages where artist residents stay and enjoy the natural beauty of this serene mountain setting with its majestic views of the mountains and valleys surrounding the site.

Dorland Mountain Arts Colony is a peaceful retreat where artists, writers, musicians and composers can create in a secluded, natural setting.

The Colony was founded in 1979 by concert pianist, Ellen Dorland, and environmentalist, Barbara Horton. Fundamental to the Colony’s existence is the Dorland Preserve, a 300-acre wilderness area acquired by the Nature Conservancy. Since its founding, more than 1,250 artists from around the world have found creative energy and inspiration in Dorland’s unique setting.

 

Location

Dorland is located near the Temecula Valley Wine Country, about 100 miles south of Los Angeles and 60 miles north of San Diego, at 36701 Highway 79 South, just 8 miles east of the I-15. Dorland Mountain Arts Colony is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.

 

Parking is free, but limited. Guests are encouraged to carpool. This event is appropriate for all ages and interests.
