The package combines accommodations for two nights with a trio of sensory amenities in the colors of the Mexican flag of green, white and red:
– Green: 60-minute facial treatment by exclusive Tata Harper for two people at Spa Matilda.
– White: In-room gourmet culinary treat for two from the hotel’s heralded restaurant, Moxi, operated by Mexico’s most famous chef, Enrique Olvera.
– Red: A bottle of red wine from a leading vintner in Mexico’s acclaimed Valle de Guadalupe wine region.

With its location in the center of historic, colonial San Miguel de Allende, in the state of Guanajuato, Hotel Matilda is in the heart of the area that launched Mexico’s independence movement. San Miguel calls itself the “Forge of National Independence” because its famous native son, General Ignacio Allende, led the revolutionary army to several important victories. Originally called San Miguel el Grande, the town was renamed San Miguel de Allende in 1826 in his honor. It was in nearby Dolores Hidalgo, however, where the Mexican War of Independence began. The “grito” – the “cry” of revolt by Catholic priest Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla on September 16, 1810 – launched the revolution against Spanish rule, and annually since 1825 the anniversary of the event has been celebrated as Mexican Independence Day.
OnSept. 15, San Miguel de Allende will celebrate Mexican Independence Day with “El Grito de Independencia,” a festive and colorful day of of street parades and festivities . Also in September in San Miguel is La Alborada– the eight-day feast beginning Sept. 27 of the town’s patron saint, San Miguel Arcangel (Saint Michael Archangel), with dancers, singing, music, food, processions and fireworks, and culminating with the “St. Michael’s Stroll” through town with the statue of San Miguel.
