Magnificent spring flowers are in full bloom in the Cederberg, thanks to excellent early winter rains. Witness the best seats in the house with Bushmans Kloof Wilderness Reserve & Wellness Retreat, where guests are guaranteed to marvel at this annual natural wonder.Guests staying at the Relais & Châteaux Lodge were taken on an excursion to the Biedouw Valley last week, celebrated as one of the best places to see the flowers, where they were dazzled by wild flowers carpeting the landscape in every possible hue and color. This incredible spectacle should last for the remainder of August and into September of this year. The half-day excursion to the Biedouw Valley is offered to Bushmans Kloof guests on a complimentary basis and is included in the full board rate. The day begins in the morning with a nature drive through the reserve and all the way to the “Top of the World” reserve gate, then into the heart of the Biedouw Valley where thousands of flowers transform the plains into a multi-hued painting. The well-timed stop at Eagle’s Nest on the reserve offers a magnificent lookout point on Boontjiesberg, and is the ideal spot for a gourmet picnic lunch courtesy of Executive Chef Floris Smith.

The Cederberg area forms part of the Cape Floral Region, a World Heritage Site that protects one of the richest plant areas in the world, and Bushmans Kloof plays a vital role in protecting the biodiversity of wildlife in the area as a sanctuary for more than 755 indigenous plant species.

Special rates are available for visitors over the famous annual “spring flower spectacle” period, starting from only $75.00 person per night sharing for the lodge’s 3-Night Summer Getaway package. This package is available seven days a week from September 1 – December 19, 2014. The package includes invigorating lodge activities, including nature drives, guided rock art excursions, botanical walks, archery and mountain biking, and all meals (full English breakfast, à la carte Light Lunch, Afternoon High Tea and à la carte Dinner).

Biedouw Picnic excursions are weather dependent and are subject to availability.
