Gettysburg, Pa. gears up for the holidays

Historic destination to offer special tours and events in December

 

Gettysburg, Pennsylvania – November 27, 2013

 

Gettysburg will always be known for its three-day battle in July 1863, but today, the town is a year-round destination. An exciting variety of tours, parades and other special events will take place in Gettysburg during the upcoming holiday season.

 

Every weekend during the season offers festive holiday opportunities and there are also events which will take place daily.

 

“The holidays are a great time for a visit to Adams County,” said Norris Flowers, president of the Gettysburg Convention & Visitors Bureau. “There are lots of options for visitors choosing to come during the holiday season, including an array of events that run from Thanksgiving weekend through New Year’s Eve.”

 

There are a variety of tours and events to be held during the 2013 holiday season. Events include:

 

  • ·        Candlelight Christmas Tours of the Shriver House Museum will be given Thanksgiving night and Saturday nights through Dec. 21.www.shriverhouse.org
  • ·        An Eisenhower Christmas will run from Dec. 1-31 and shows the Eisenhower family home decorated for the holidays. www.nps.gov/eise
  • ·        The Sgt. Mac Foundation will 8,000 wreaths at Soldiers’ National Cemetery in honor of the brave soldiers who are buried there on Friday, Dec. 6. www.sgtmac.org
  • ·        A Rocky Mountain Christmas will take the stage at the Majestic Theater in Gettysburg, on Friday, Dec. 6. www.gettysburgmajestic.org
  • ·        Gettysburg Festival’s 4th Annual Gingerbread Celebration & Holiday Mart will be held Dec. 6-7. www.gettysburgfestival.org
