New Ghost Tours of “Old Hangtown”
Beginning October 11, Discover Spirits of the Past with Main Street Walks in Old Hangtown.

Since its Gold Rush days, Placerville has always welcomed spirited characters. Many, despite being long-departed, have remained. Some are unsettled, a few lovelorn and others continue to enjoy a ghoulishly good poker game.
Gold Rush Tales begins offering year-round ghost tours along the former Hangtown’s Main Street on Friday, October 11.
Mixing humor and history with a bit of entertaining horror, the hour-long tours, less than one-half mile in length, will occur Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights at 6:30pm and 8:00 pm.
The earlier tour will begin by the Cozmic Café at 594 Main Street and end by the Cary House Hotel at 300 Main Street. The later tour will be in reverse by starting near the Cary House Hotel. Free parking is available at both locations.
Along the route, intrepid spooky loving fans will be introduced to spectrum of specters.
A flirty front desk clerk with a penchant for pinching bottoms of both sexes, the souls who gave Hangtown its moniker and the hangman, himself are just a few still said to be residing in Main Street businesses like the El Dorado County’s Chamber of Commerce and Placerville Hardware.
Tickets are $5.00 for everyone ages 3 and above. Reservations are not necessary, but it is first come/first scared and space is limited.
On Sunday, October 27, Ghost Tours of Placerville will kick off Halloween week with nightly 6:30pm and 8:00pm tours.
Placerville is located in the Sierra Nevada foothills, midway between Lake Tahoe and Sacramento.
