Volaris, the largest Mexican low-cost airline, will fly nonstop, three times weekly from Phoenix to Mexico City and Phoenix to Guadalajara beginning in the fourth quarter of this year. Exact days and times of the flights will be announced soon. With the addition of Phoenix to its network, Volaris will serve a total of 11 destinations in the U.S. Sky Harbor currently serves 20 international cities with nonstop service, including several daily flights to Guadalajara and Mexico City on US Airways.Back to Top

Phoenix Art Museum opens The Art of Video Games, which travels from the Smithsonian American Art Museum. The exhibition is one of the first to explore the forty-year evolution of video games as an artistic medium, with a focus on striking visual effects and the creative use of new technologies. It features some of the most influential artists and designers during five eras of game technology, from early pioneers to contemporary designers. The exhibition focuses on the interplay of graphics, technology and storytelling through some of the best games for twenty gaming systems ranging from the Atari VCS to the PlayStation 3. Eighty games, selected with the help of the public, demonstrate the evolution of the medium. The games are presented through still images and video footage. In addition, the galleries will include video interviews with twenty developers and artists, large prints of in-game screen shots, and historic game consoles. Chris Melissinos, founder of Past Pixels and collector of video games and gaming systems, is the curator of the exhibition. The exhibition is on display through September 29, 2013.Flamenco Por La Vida is at the Crescent Ballroom. It not only shares the passions of dance but gives the community authenticity of music, song and life through the historic art form from the south of Spain. The dancing begins at 5 p.m. and is complimentary. Flamenco Por La Vida is offered on July 13th, 20th and 27th.Heard Museum is offering free admission Sundays in July. Experience music and dance performers every Sunday at 12:30 p.m. and 2 p.m. as well as artist demonstrations at 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. Explore the current exhibit“Chocolate, Chili & Cochineal: Changing Taste Around the World”, where chocolate joins many other delectably displayed depictions of foods in the Heard’s presentation about several edibles many people might be surprised to know are from the Americas.The exhibit explores foods — chili, tomatoes, potatoes, peanuts, avocados, maple syrup, corn, beans, squash — and a tiny insect, the cochineal, indigenous to the Americas that when exported greatly affected other parts of the world.“Westgate Wednesdays with Radio Disney” – It’s time to turn the music up and dance to your favorite Radio Disney jams at Westgate Entertainment District. Every Wednesday night, in the month of July, enjoy dancing, sing-alongs, games, giveaways and more. The jams start at 6:30pm-7:30pm. University of Phoenix Stadium is hosting the LEGO KidsFest. This brings all of the creative hands-on, minds-on fun of LEGO building and experiences together in one activity- and entertainment-packed family event for children of all ages and builders of all skills and interests. KidsFest is only here from July 12 to July 14.

Dierks Bentley’s Whiskey Row makes its debut. Ryan Hibbert, Mike Troyan, and Jon Wright, owners of Riot Hospitality Group (RHG) and operators of El Hefe Super Macho Taqueria, and Grammy nominated country superstar Dierks Bentley announce the opening of the new live country music venue, Whiskey Row, a throwback to 1920s style saloon with a new country vibe. The new 5200 sq. ft. country bar concept opens its doors on July 4th. The venue will be open seven days a week: Monday-Friday from 11 a.m. until 2 a.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. until 2 a.m.

Previously named Desert Sky Pavilion, the newly named Ak-Chin Pavilion partners with the Indian community and has a very exciting line up for the months to come including Kid Rock (7/24) and Luke Bryan (7/27).

Through August 31, Biltmore Fashion Park offers “Dining after Dark” with deals you won’t be able to turn down from 8 p.m. to close. After the sun goes down, the shopping center’s participating restaurants offer a pre-fixe menu that includes an appetizer, two entrees, two alcoholic beverages and a dessert, for either $50 or $35. Some of the participating restaurants are Christopher’s & Crush lounge, California Pizza Kitchen and the Capital Grille.After launching Sky Harbor Airport’s Terminal Four into the foodie stratosphere, Chef Gio Osso’s own restaurant,Virtu – making its debut at the Bespoke Inn. Osso transforms the charming 25-seat eatery in to what he describes as “a quiet, cozy secret in Greater Phoenix.” Expect a menu that changes almost weekly, with housemade pastas, superb seafood, new Mediterranean creations and rustic favorites. Last Drop at the Hermosarenovates space and releases new menus; Guests will notice a change upon entering. Last Drop offers a cozy space to grab a cocktail before or after dinner. The highly regarded cocktail lounge has expanded its space to include a grill room with both couch and table seating, there will be live entertainment every night at happy hour and a new lunch menu will feature everything from salads and sandwiches to shared bites and pizzas from the new wood-burning oven. Already touting a high-end boutique cocktail program, this too will be reflected in the new menu, as both alcoholic and non-alcoholic options will be available.Proof at Four Seasons Resort Scottsdale, an American canteen, is rolling out the grill for an old fashioned backyard barbecue series, featuring live music, craft beers and a three-course specialty menu on select summer nights in June, July and August. The barbecue begins with homemade cornbread and Arizona-grown salad.  Then, guests fire up their choice of entrée, which includes pork tenderloin, honey-cayenne chicken or kabobs with a side of sweet  corn  or  potato  salad. Then a piece of cherry crisp topped with vanilla-bean ice cream to follow. The barbecue series will be held on Proof’s patio from 5 to 9:30 p.m., on June 28, July 26 and Aug. 23, 2013, and costs $39 per person.Back to Top
