FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Azzedine Alaïa Exhibit Opens in Düsseldorf’s NRW Forum

The iconic fashion designer to the stars, considered the last of the great old-school couturiers and dubbed “King of Cling” for his revolutionary 1980’s stretch designs, is paid homage by Düsseldorf’s NRW Forum exhibit of his best designs from the last decade.

Düsseldorf, Germany – “Azzedine Alaïa – Couture in the 21st  Century,” a new exhibit at the NRW Forum, June 8 – September 8, 2013, is a showcase of the most thrilling garments designed by the Tunisia-born designer in the past ten years.

Living and working in Paris since the 1950’s, Alaïa is considered one of the most influential fashion designers, and one of the most imitated.  Some of the world’s most famous women are among his clients, and his fame sky-rocketed in the late 1980s when he designed super tight seductive garments that seemed to stick to skin and body, earning him the title “King of Cling.”

The exhibit, curated by Mark Wilson/Groninger Museum, includes many pieces loaned directly from the designer, who still lives and works under the same roof in Paris’ Marais district.  The exhibit is structured by material – with rooms featuring garments made of silk, fur, leather, wool, linen, etc.

For more information on the exhibit, visit http://www.nrw-forum.de

The city’s tourism office is offering hotel and city specials for many of the city’s music and art-related events throughout 2013, including the Alaïa exhibit.  The travel package called “Düsseldorf à la Card” can be booked right from the tourism office’s website athttp://www.duesseldorf-tourismus.de/en/hotel-packages/duesseldorf-a-la-card/. Prices start at €49 per night per person based on double-occupancy for a 2-3 star hotel in the city center and at €95 per person for a 4-5 star hotel.  All packages include breakfast, a Düsseldorf Welcome Card (free public transportation within city limits, plus more than 40 free or reduced admissions to city attractions), and a city information package.
