HOLLAND AMERICA LINE WINS TWO ALASKA AWARDS RECOGNIZING CRUISE QUALITY, ENVIRONMENTAL SUSTAINABILITY

Cruise line honored by National Tour Association and Alaska SeaLife Center

Seattle, Wash., March 6, 2013 — Holland America Line recently received awards in Alaska from the National Tour Association (NTA) and Alaska SeaLife Center. The awards recognize the line’s exceptional cruise experience and commitment to stewardship and sustainability.

The premium line was named Favorite Cruise Experience in the NTA’s Distinguished Dozen awards and was the recipient of the Alaska SeaLife Center’s 2013 Ocean Stewardship and Sustainability Award.

“These awards are gratifying because they acknowledge both the exceptional experience we strive to provide each guest and our commitment to sustainability,” said Richard Meadows, executive vice president, marketing, sales and guest programs for Holland America Line. “Alaska is one of the purest and most beautiful parts of the world, and these awards honor our commitment to both the environment and our guests.”

NTA’s Courier magazine published the winners of its second annual Distinguished Dozen awards, which honor 12 categories of destinations, attractions, hotels and restaurants. Winners are selected as the favorites of NTA tour operators, and Holland America Line won the gold for Favorite Cruise Experience.

For its commitment to the environment, Holland America Line was recognized with the Alaska SeaLife Center’s Ocean Stewardship and Sustainability Award, sponsored by Jason Brune. Holland America Line took top honors in this category of the annual Alaska Ocean Leadership Awards for its leadership in establishing practices to protect and sustain the waters where the line sails. The Alaska SeaLife Center also credited the line’s measurable achievement in reducing emissions while promoting sustainability in Alaskan waters, along with its partnerships in southeast Alaska to involve guests in collecting and recording research data maintained by Alaska Sea Grant’s Marine Advisory Program.

During the 2013 Alaska season, Holland America Line will offer seven, 10- and 14-day cruises on seven ships that highlight the best of the region’s wilderness, wildlife, native culture and history. The line’s popular CruiseTours extend the Alaska experience by combining a three-, four- or seven-day Inside Passage Holland America Line cruise with in-depth overland tours that range in total length from 10 to 20 days.

Unique to the Holland America Line cruise experience, Alaska-inspired cuisine is featured throughout both cruise and land components, and knowledgeable interpreters, tour concierges and Alaska travel guides are present on most CruiseTours and Alaska sailings. At Glacier Bay National Park, National Park Rangers provide extensive commentary and guided programs.
