Cottonwood, AZ – Wineries and vineyards in Arizona raised eyebrows a half dozen years ago when the first vineyards in the Cottonwood, Sedona, Verde Valley region were beginning to mature and wine production came into full swing. Today eyebrows raise with delight as the wineries produce more and more award winning vintages and the Verde Valley Wine Trail grows by leaps and bounds. There are now 12 Wineries and Tasting Rooms on the Wine Trail, with the recent openings of Burning Tree Cellars and Dionysian Cellars. Many of the tasting rooms are within walking distance of each other in picturesque Downtown Cottonwood, with the wineries all within a few minutes car ride away. Perfect for those wanting a day or weekend getaway.

Burning Tree Cellars in Old Town Cottonwood is a collaboration by “Co-Conspirators” Corey Turnbull and  Mitch Levy. Burning Tree Cellars specializes in small batch boutique wines from the finest available fruit sources, aged in quality oak with plenty of patience. Their wines will never be pushed through chain supermarkets…Burning Tree wines are, and always will be for each other, their families, friends, and visitors to the Cellars Tasting Room.  Burning Tree wines are noteworthy for the taste and quality and also the unique labels, each of which are worthy of framing.

Dionysian Cellars, in the historic mining town of Jerome, has one of the most distinctive entries you will ever encounter. The front door is custom wrought iron grape vines that are already appearing on visitor’s Facebook pages because it is so distinctive, and despite the tasting rooms young age of only a few months, the feel of the room is comfortable, warmly welcoming and reminiscent of an old French Quarter establishment. Melissa Sterner, Tasting Room Manager and graduate of the Yavapai College Viticulture program says, “All of our wines are from the Dionysian Cellars and the Freitas Vineyard, every wine is very small batch and handcrafted. Freitas wines are 100% estate grown in Cottonwood. Dionysian Cellars was founded in 2007 by owner and winemaker Darin Evans with one goal in mind…to produce ultra premium wines. We produce Barbera, Chardonnay, Tempranillo, Syrah, Pinot Noir, and Malbec and we are adding new and exciting varietals and blends every year. We are situated across the street from the Haunted Hamburger just below Jerome Olive Oil Traders and Alices Resturaunt. Our goal is to present Arizona and the world with an array of fantastic wines.”

The wines on the Verde Valley Wine Trail have won national awards for their quality with varietals including Syrah, Petite Sirah, Viognier, Rousanne, Zinfandel, Merlot, Pinot Grigio, and Chardonnay, just to name a few. Every winery has its own unique personality at each stop along the Wine Trail and every Tasting Room has a sampling menu that changes throughout the year. All of the Tasting Room menus can be viewed at www.VerdeValleyWineTrail.com; lodging specials and guided wine tours are also available online.
