FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

A Modern Circus Comes to Town for 3-Week Magic Fall Festival – düsseldorf festival!

A 22-year old festival returns to Düsseldorf with a new name and breath-taking, innovative magic, acrobatic, dance and theater performances – all over the city.  More than 600 international performers will enchant 25,000 visitors from September 12 – October 3, 2012, and the city invites visitors to dream, explore, and stay overnight amid the festival’s beauty.

Düsseldorf, Germany – “düsseldorf festival!” is the new name for a festival that has been sparking the inner magic of a city through magic performances for over two decades.  Formerly the “Altstadtherbst – Old Town Autumn,” the event is in its 22nd year and by now a bright star among festivals.  The variety, uniqueness and sophistication of the various shows and performers are so vast they burst out from under the umbrella term “modern circus” and spill into the streets of Düsseldorf’s Old Town to spread awe and joy for a solid 22 brilliant Fall days.

The new name is one attempt to do justice to the broadening of the festival in all directions.  Not only has the number of attendees been increasing steadily – 25,000 are expected, 5,000 more than just a few years ago – but also the international scope of the festival’s program, participants, and visitors.  More than 600 artists from all over the world will appear in the various performance spaces all over town.

Highlights include: “Les 7 Doigts de la Main” and “Cirkus Cirkör,” two groups whose circus show not only transcends traditional forms, but also seemingly gravity itself.  Redefining the limits of a genre is just one way to describe the art of “Zimmermann & de Perrot,” their dance, theater and acrobatics creating a universe all of its own.  Even music is used for the explosions of newness the program offers.  New ways to use instruments and voice are used by Baroque ensemble “I Sonatori de la Gioiosa Marca” and “Hilliard Ensemble,” respectively.  An amazing musical contrast is offered by the hip hop art of “Japanese Delight,” and Taiwanese artists of the “U Theatre” combine traditional drumming with Tai Chi for something new entirely.  “Söndörgö” and her effervescent Balkan sound fit in as much with the program as “Tony Allen’s Black Series feat. Amp Fiddler” and their afrobeat, funk, and soul, a style that has been described as “Nigeria meets Detroit.”
