Celebrate Our Biltmore Concert Series |
|
Dear Marilyn, |
My great-grandparents appreciated all forms of art, but it was music that most naturally aligned with their love for entertaining. George and Edith commissioned full orchestras for Christmas parties and Cornelia’s 22nd birthday party, and regularly hired soloists to perform for guests and family at dinner. It’s in the spirit of these musical gatherings that we’ve been offering the Biltmore Concert Series, setting great performances against gorgeous scenery, for 16 years. This summer, please join us at a concert (or two!) for a truly Biltmore experience.Sincerely,
Dini Cecil Pickering
Vice Chair of Biltmore’s Board of Directors, and
George Vanderbilt’s great-granddaughter |

Did the Vanderbilt family have any philanthropic interests? |
|
Cornelius Vanderbilt not only established the family’s great fortune, he also established its tradition of generous giving with a $1 million contribution in 1873 to Central University (later renamed Vanderbilt University). Over the years, many cultural and educational institutions have benefited from Vanderbilt philanthropy. This commitment continues today, with a focus on regional causes that promote self-sufficiency and encourage the stewardship of natural and human resources. |
