More Direct Flights from North America to Düsseldorf  International (DUS) — airberlin’s new Las Vegas, Miami and L.A. Flights

Now DUS offers even more options for direct travel between Düsseldorf and North America, as airberlin expands the number of flights from its DUS hub to three US airports:  New twice-weekly flights from and to Las Vegas, six weekly flights to MIA (up from 4), and continued service to LAX in the winter (previously summer only).

Düsseldorf, Germany – The continuous growth of air travel between North America and DUS is reflected in airberlin’s strategy for expanded service from DUS to three US cities.  In addition to the new direct service between DUS and Las Vegas (LAS), a twice-weekly connection, the airline just announced that the existing summer service between DUS and Los Angeles (LAX) will become an all-year connection. It will continue throughout the winter as part of the new winter 2012/13 flight plan.  Moreover, the number of direct airberlin flights between DUS and Miami (MIA) will go up from four to six weekly. All connections can be booked starting immediately, and flights are operated with Airbus A330-200, featuring 299 passenger seats, including 20 in the new business class.

Growing passenger numbers and potential for more air traffic from the region and beyond are behind the airlines’ decision to add flights to its North America routes.  Paul Gregorowitsch, airberlin’s CCO, confirms: “airberlin is betting on DUS for more growth, and especially on expanded flight options for North America.  That also benefits our guests from the Netherlands, who already use the airberlin flights from DUS more and more.”

Chistoph Blume, CEO of DUS, agrees: The new flight options make Düsseldorf International even more attractive.  Short transfer times and a growing number of long-haul destinations are our promise to our travelers. Las Vegas is airberlin’s 15th long-haul destination from DUS, and this summer — for the first time ever —  we offer more than 100 long-haul options per week by 70 airlines.  This fortunate development is also a reflection of the metropolitan Rhine Ruhr area and its great potential for trade and tourism.”

In League with New York, London, Paris and More

Adding to Düsseldorf’s appeal, several US & Canadian cities (Atlanta, Chicago, Ft. Myers, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Miami, New York, Newark, San Francisco, Toronto, Vancouver) offer non-stop flights. Passengers who continue their journeys can choose from numerous convenient connections to Berlin, Munich, Frankfurt, Hamburg and many other German and European cities. Throughout the year, 70 airlines serve 190 destinations worldwide – among them 125 European destinations. Another major advantage of the airport is its layout. With all gates in one terminal building, Düsseldorf International is the “airport of short distances” – guaranteeing minimum connection times of 35 minutes.

The airport is at the center of the Rhine Ruhr area, a bustling network of 53 connected cities and 18 million residents within 40 miles. It is the EU’s third largest market in volume and spending and equal to major metropolitan regions like New York, London and Paris. 500,000 companies are located in the area, including 5,000 offices of foreign corporations, the majority from the Netherlands, Japan and the USA. Many major international industry players, including Fujifilm Europe, Nokia Siemens, Novell, Ericsson, McKinsey, and Toshiba, are headquartered in Düsseldorf, which is a first-rate location for high-tech concerns.  International presence and fast accessibility – guaranteed by DUS being one of Germany’s major hubs – make the location highly attractive.

Düsseldorf and North Rhine-Westphalia, ranked 17 in GDP among the world’s major industrial centers, are also home to some of the most significant exhibitions and trade shows in the world. Of the 50 annual events at Düsseldorf’s Exhibition Center, 23 lead their industry worldwide, for example, printing technology (“drupa”), plastics and rubber (“K”), medicine (“MEDICA” and “REHACARE INTERNATIONAL”), leisure time (“boot”) or packaging (“interpack”).
